Mike Paul joined Southern Methodist University (SMU) in 2001. As Director of Energy Management and Engineering, he brings more than 25 years of experience in the area of energy management. Mike is responsible for the entire HVAC maintenance and operation, energy management and HVAC controls, central plant, utilities, and utility commodities for SMU. With three campuses to manage effectively, Mike directs his team to focus on efficiency and productivity.

His latest project focuses on pursuing LEED certification of SMU’s Embrey Engineering building and Dallas Hall. Prior to joining SMU, Mike spent almost ten years as the Director of Building Maintenance, at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Mike began his career in the US Navy as a Supervisor in the engineer room on the USS Stonewall Jackson.

Mike earned his Masters in Facilities Management at Southern Methodist University, and his bachelors in Mechanical Engineering at University of Texas at Arlington. He is also a Certified Energy Manager, a Certified Indoor Air Quality Professional and a LEED Accredited Professional.
